Iron Horse began as an idea in 2001
by owners Ed and Vicki Karius. Ed, being a licensed physical
therapist for more than 25 years, Vicki, an
experienced horse enthusiast for over 25 years, decided to combine
their two worlds of expertise. A perfect mix, and
two of the most important ingredients needed for a Therapeutic
Riding center. The center didn't even have a name, but a concept
was all that was needed.
After several years of research and attending countless workshops
and certification procedures, the name Iron Horse
was decided upon, because it is traditionally identified with two
or more powerful and solid icons. One frame of reference was the
mighty steam engines of a bygone era that brought progress to a
young nation. The other association was with the elegant and
impressive war horses of the medieval period that helped noble
knights conquer many obstacles. Both images conjure ideas of
movement, strength, and achievement—which, by the way, is a portion
of Iron Horse's motto.
"Movement, Strength, and
Achievement... Through the Horse."
